Sheet Spray Painting

This activity is best done outdoors as it can get messy. It's a great activity for teaching color mixing. Give your child at least 2 different colors to paint with - or if you have 2 children give them one color each and let them share together.

Any type of old sheet or curtain will do, or you can purchase material specifically for painting on. By using our homemade recipe, food coloring or poster paint, the sheet will not stain.

Peg the sheet or piece of material to the washing line outside and simply throw in the washing machine when your kids are done.

What You Need:

  • spray bottles - one for each colour
  • food colouring or paint
  • water
  • old sheet or large piece of material
  • pegs - and something to peg sheet to

What To Do:

  1. Half fill the spray bottles with water, and add a small amount of food colouring or paint. Shake to combine.
  2. Peg sheet or material to the washing line or onto a length of rope.
  3. Let your child spray the sheet.

Your children can get as creative as they want and will have lots of fun. If you have more than one, they will usually end up spraying each other. In this case I recommend to use non-toxic and washable paint. Food coloring is not suitable, as it won't easily go off the skin.

Have your children wear a painting smock, some old clothes or even bathing suits. Otherwise you might have stains in their clothes afterwards.
